China has now formally charged two Canadians, Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, who have been detained since last December. The two are being charged with gathering state secrets for a foreign force. Their case has frayed relations between Canada and China amid the dispute over the arrest of Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou after the U.S. requested her extradition.
