U.S. Scientists Frances Arnold and George Smith and Britain's Gregory Winter are sharing this year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Their research uses directed evolution to produce novel proteins which are used in everything from environmentally friendly detergents and biofuels to cancer drugs.
