Turkish President cracks down on military with sweeping reform after attempted coup

TURKEY-SECURITY/ERDOGAN

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wishes to enact a sweeping military training and command reform in the wake of the attempted coup earlier this month. Nearly 1400 soldiers have been dismissed, the existing military academy is to be scrapped in favour of a new military university, several ministers have been added to the Supreme Military council, and the president wishes the intelligence agency to report directly to him.
