North American markets tumble on indicator of looming recession, Dow sheds 800 points, TSX 350 points

North American markets fell sharply on Wednesday, shaken by signs of a possible recession on the horizon. The inversion of a key part of the yield curve in the American bond market for the first time since 2007 spooked investors, since the pattern has preceded the last 5 recessions. The Dow Jones posted its biggest one-day drop since October 2008, shedding 800 points, and the TSX lost 305 points.
