Barrick makes hostile bid for Newmont, would become world's largest gold miner

Canada's Barrick Gold has made a formal merger offer to take over rival Newmont Mining. The all-stock hostile takeover would create the world's largest gold mining company by a wide margin and, according to Barrick, unlock $7 billion in synergies.
