83,000 low-income seniors to get overdue GIS payments — but no interest

The federal government is shelling out some $245 million in long-overdue payments to low-income seniors after discovering they had been shortchanged for as long as seven years. But officials say no interest will be paid to compensate people who were denied as much as $40,000 in guaranteed income supplement payments.
